This year my colleague Rachel Nolan and I will be showcasing how to use Bloxels to promote student making and creation through video game design. I am looking forward to showcasing what our students at both Country View and Stoner Prairie have been creating with the larger making community. | |
Last year I attended the Making in Education Conference at the 2nd annual Milwaukee Maker Faire. I learned and connected with other educators around the state about making in education. I also was able to enjoy the Milwaukee Maker Faire too. This year will be even better.....

The design process of creating a fidget is fascinating and a fantastic 3D printing project. 3D Printing Nerd's Youtube channel has taught me how to use Fusion 360 as well as investigate more about fidget spinners. Now my challenge is how to have students access Fusion 360 in a 1:1 iPad environment. Time to tweet to Autodesk.
Here is another really fantastic project that one of our students created around planes and flying. http://20759g.weebly.com/ (password: genius)
Here is another fantastic website that a student created to share her love of stories. She illustrates the characters as well as writes the stories. Password (genius) http://candytailstories.weebly.com/
As I have been going through all of the work that our students did for Genius Hour - Weebly vs. Bloxels, I wanted to share this beautiful website that one of the students created. To access the site, use the password (genius). It is beautifully done. http://20577.weebly.com/
Lesson Learned: When students choose to not engage, as a teacher you need to know when to stop the lesson.
As part of Genius Hour, one of our students created a Bloxels game about Bloxels. I had hoped that we could find a way for the student to reach out to the Bloxels team to add even more to his game. Still working on the Bloxels interview part.... Josh?
Here is another example from Genius Hour of a student who chose to focus on his passion of Pokemon. Check out his design process as well as how he incorporated information and a quiz into his final game to ensure that the player is learning. Pretty clever!
