Our second graders and fifth graders started to bring their fairytales to life today.
They had worked through the planning and now they are choosing between Bloxels, Toontastic 3D, and Puppet Pals.
Some of the groups are even taking it further and creating the story in several different mediums.
This week our second grade authors created more of their story while their fifth grade coauthor helped shape the original story. Last week each partnership designed their main characters using the draw feature in Morphi and uploading it directly to our Thingiverse account. The 3D printer printed non stop for several days bringing characters to life. The last touches were put on the characters using Sharpies to add color and detail. This activity was inspired by Karen Bosch and really helped both authors bond together over their story coming to life.
The story plan designed by Manuel Herrera is being used in paper form by our second graders and then the fifth grade partner is capturing the story into digital form prior to determining the final publishing format which many plan on using Bloxels.
Sometimes words can't capture the feeling of what happens at lunch recess every Wednesday and Friday in our LMC.
What is DENSI? Discovery Educator Network Summer Institute is my "teacher" camp where if I am selected, I get to spend a week with 150 educators from the U.S.A., Canada, UK, and now several other countries learning and discovery about different uses of technology as well as other amazing ideas. Last year I learned about BreakOut Edu and this year I hope to learn even more.
Presentation - Coding Beyond Code.org
This year I will be presenting with another fabulous DEN member LeaAnne Daughrity about coding on Wednesday. Our session will be very hands-on and a nice complement to the following day of the DEN Maker Playground. Below are screen shots of the website that we will be using.
DEN Maker Playground
This year I am working on the DEN Maker Playground for our unconference day on Thursday. I have been reaching out to companies to get promotional products and also to arrange hangouts where educators can talk to the people who are designing and using the product. I am really looking forward to making this happen.
I've created table flyers with QR codes for people to learn more about the product but also contribute to a shared padlet of ideas.
Bloxels has been a very powerful engaging tool for our learners. The following two videos are examples of students who chose an area of interest, researched, and created a video game in Bloxels to share about their interest.
