Students in Ms. Fortney's class are creating their paper slide videos and sharing them on Flipgrid as they learn about the history of the country they live in as well as the history of Australia from their partner class in Australia. Next week students will be creating 3D artifacts that represent their important event and sharing them.
Candle Video Tutorial
Guidelines for the reboot and redesign on Thursday:
1. All holes will need to be a diameter of 42-45mm. What will this look like in a heart shape? How can you ensure that it is this diameter?
2. Walls cannot be super thin.
3. Holes in the walls need to be small and not near each other. Which holes will not work?
4. The design cannot have floating shapes.
As we played with Makers Empire and learned how to manipulate shapes through the snowman challenge and other challenges, I realized that too many of the students really couldn't see what they were creating in the physical environment which is why we used model magic and took a learning session to physically create a candle holder. It was also important that students not accept their first physical design as I planned to require multiple designs in Makers Empire before students would select their final design.
Second graders have been working on their study of landforms by designing a keychain landform island.
This unit consisted of five 30 minute lessons.
Students in Ms. Zorr's class started their first prototype design of a candle holder. They have had lots of fun with making holes.
For the last 2 weeks, our second grade students at CV having been using Makers Empire to create an island with different landforms. Students are studying landforms and then using their understanding of landforms to create their own unique island with a minimum of 4 different landforms. Next week the printing of islands will start.
