This month all of our classrooms will participate in Hour of Code as well as have these learning opportunities available during Makerspace twice a week.
Below are the activities that we will be offering.
Students and families were able to enjoy the Makerspace during Share Fair this Thursday.
Three years ago I attended my first Maker Faire in Milwaukee and it was so inspiring. Last year they added an educational component and I was lucky enough to be able to attend it and connect with other educators around the state about making and education.
This year Rachel Nolan and I will be presenting about how we are using Bloxels in Genius Hour to promote making.
Last year I attended the Making in Education Conference at the 2nd annual Milwaukee Maker Faire. I learned and connected with other educators around the state about making in education. I also was able to enjoy the Milwaukee Maker Faire too. This year will be even better.....
As part of Genius Hour, one of our students created a Bloxels game about Bloxels. I had hoped that we could find a way for the student to reach out to the Bloxels team to add even more to his game. Still working on the Bloxels interview part.... Josh?
Here is another example from Genius Hour of a student who chose to focus on his passion of Pokemon. Check out his design process as well as how he incorporated information and a quiz into his final game to ensure that the player is learning. Pretty clever!
I wanted to share the beginning of a video game from a young lady who I think is quite talented. She is very humble and struggles to recognize her greatness. At the beginning of this round of Genius Hour, each student was asked to pick a topic that they wanted to teach, persuade, or inform others about. This young lady needed a little prompting and scaffolding. I asked her what she was passionate about... which she replied nothing. So I asked her what her favorite animal is.... and that is where the adventure started.
I want her video game to speak for itself. This is just the beginning of our short interview. My goal is to get this uploaded to the Infinity Wall but today it just wasn't happening.
