Thank you to the InfyMakers grant and VAEF grant for supporting this project!
Ms. Moll captured beautifully the work that our first semester group of 8th grade designers made happen for our 3rd grade buddies. I love seeing the joy that my designers created by mentoring in 3D printing, Glowforge laser designs, and Makers Empire.

This week was the start of semester 2 and the opportunity to reintroduce the Glowforge to my designers. This time I created an Edpuzzle introduction (an edited version is below without our login).
Glowforge Design Challenges
This week was the culmination of our Design Thinking Coding Project with a LAUNCH to 4 different classes ranging from 2nd to 4th. Designers impressed with their knowledge and ability to adapt to different learning groups.

I started the school year with both the experience of using Micro:Bit V2, a class set from the Infosys Foundation, and the resources that CodeJoy with Kelsey and Matt provided me. I am a maker at heart so coding to solve puzzles did not motivate me either. I wanted to make and see the impact of my programming which with Micro:Bit V2 is amazing. Entering the world of Micro:Bit has given me the opportunity to follow some amazing educators on Twitter as well as share some of what I am trying in my classroom from Spain to Japan. In a few weeks, I will have the opportunity to attend Crossroads 23. I still marvel at the opportunities that I have been given through the support of the Infosys Foundation. I am profoundly humbled by the connections and impact that I have been provided through Pathfinders. Two days after returning from Crossroads 23, I will be co-presenting a workshop on Micro:Bits at IDEACon about the Monster Virtual Pet lessons.
As part of our Youth Empowerment Justice and Joy course for Grade 6, I used the Challenge Central Making a Difference Module from Makers Empire as a guide for our learning and creating. Day 1Day 2 and 3The integration of using Makers Empire and the videos in Challenge Central along with the paper activities that supported the process made this a very powerful resource for me as a teacher. Day 4, 5, and 6This was where the magic really happened as teams worked together to create prototypes and get feedback about their design choices. Day 7 - Preparing for our Fundraiser

One of my favorite STEM weeks is our music and Trombone Shorty story week. Here is a link to previous posts - https://icreateilearn.weebly.com/middle-school-6-8/category/trombone-shorty
The reason I love this week is the creativity that is shared by the designers. This quarter instead of watching Trombone Shorty together, I used this Edpuzzle.
Designers then had 3 different design challenges which Flip mixtapes captures beautifully. I use Flip because it is important that designers both share and learn how to appreciate each other's designs.
