This unit integrating creative robotics using the Hummingbird and Micro:Bit has been by far my favorite unit. Last summer I learned about both the Micro:Bit and Hummingbird through Pathfinders with CodeJoy. It was the highlight of my summer learning and making. It is scary to integrate new technology that I am not completely a master of, but over the last few years I have learned how to trust the design process and find resources that will propel my designers forward in their discoveries. With Hummingbird and Micro:Bit, the resources that have been developed for me as an educator have easily translated into the classroom. | |
In the Simple Robots Flip, you can see how designers started with iterations that quickly evolved. The designers then took their designs and shared them with their fifth grade partners. Several groups even had their partners add to their design. This unit has reinforced my belief that computer science and making are powerful tools for unleashing creativity at any age.
