Captured this today in the Design Lab.... pretty awesome.
Sometimes words can't capture the feeling of what happens at lunch recess every Wednesday and Friday in our LMC.
Last week was the debut of Dash Coding Basketball using Blockly and the launcher. Some students became very clever in their shots.
This week was the debut of Dash Soccer.
Circumstances delayed this post.... the night I was planning to write this post, I lost one of my pet bunnies, Coco...
The power behind the MeeperBots tended to blow the lego construction off of the top of them but that didn't bother any of our students. I appreciated that our young and old students were drawn to them as well as it was gender neutral. I can't wait to see how more students respond as all 5 were quickly taken and used.
With the iPad 1:1 Rollout complete, it is now time to concentrate on preparing for the launch of SP Design Lab and SP Innovation Lab.
Preparations - SP Mobile Makerspace
In 2011 my first year at Stoner Prairie as the Educational Technology Coordinator, I wrote a grant to TEF to help jump start our student access to iPads. We were selected to receive $5000 which in a way was life changing for me. It made me realize that requesting money for our school could really increase access to technology for our students. Because of this kickstart by TEF, I proceeded to write and successfully obtain grants from Lowe's, Walmart, Donor's Choose, Madison4Kids, and more.
I write about this today because for the past few years I have either ran or volunteered for the Berbee Derby because of this foundation and its creator Jim Berbee. The SP Design Lab and SP Innovation Lab started because someone believed in the power of technology.
Today while volunteering to prepare t-shirt packets, I had the opportunity to work alongside Jim Berbee. Throughout the morning I realized that I was in the presence of a person who inspires others by leading by example. Not only am I grateful for having someone who gave me the opportunity to really impact our students but also someone who leads with positivity. Thank you Jim and Karen for believing in me, our students, and the community! Your impact is felt each day.
