Yesterday was the first time that I have done scribble robots with students. I learned about them from The Tinkering Studio Exploratorium Online course this past summer. I had already purchased some from Maker Shed - The SpinBot Kit. It was cool but even I became bored watching it go in circles. After watching videos about scribble bots or marker bots, I realized that it was important that the SpinBots be created by the students.
So I purchased a bunch of motors off of Amazon. The motors arrived and then I realized that they didn't have any wires. So for two days I stripped wires and attached them to the motors. I assembled all of the pieces for the project but used cut glue sticks for the off set piece. I do not recommend buying wireless motors or using glue sticks.... bad plan. But we worked through the materials together and students who participated enjoyed it.
I have learned that next session will be not Minecraft or Circuitry but both. Unfortunately many students would not tear themselves away from the virtual world and the after-school program is intentional in creating a virtual and physical learning environment.
Next week is Makey Makeys!
