Day 1: Wisconsin to Dayton, Ohio
Carrie and I made a plan to drive together to New River Gorge. We agreed that it made sense to stop part way so that we didn't arrive exhausted. So at 8:30a on Saturday, Carrie pulled in to my driveway and let me put my overstuffed suitcase along with enough food to last almost the whole week. Now please don't assume that we weren't going to be fed fabulous meals but having recently changed my diet, I was leaving nothing to chance. I mean I was driving with someone who I sort of knew, going to a place I didn't know, sleeping in a cabin with people I didn't know, and I did have this really vague schedule that would probably overwhelm my introvert style. So we started to drive. The hours flew by as we talked about home, school, and everything in between. Honestly I was amazed at the ease in which I was able to be myself with Carrie. The drive to Dayton, OH was fun and fast. |
I had booked a Bed and Breakfast in Dayton, OH. Just a note for anyone who wants to travel with me, don't let me book the hotel. The B&B was really nice but of course I booked it on a Saturday next to the biggest bar and social scene in Dayton so you can just imagine. I was really surprised that we had a parking spot designated for us so of course I had to take a picture of it.
Day 2: Dayton, Ohio to Camp Brookstone, West Virginia
So Sunday morning we were off on the last part of our journey to STEAM in the Park. It was a short journey of only a little over 4 hours so we stopped at Sheetz as well as Tamarack in West Virginia. One for gas, the other for regional arts and crafts. The best part of Tamarack was that they had a penny smoosher so of course I borrowed 76 cents from Carrie to crush a penny. I get immense joy out of crushing pennies. I still owe Carrie the money but don't remind her please. | |
Before even arriving to camp, we were able to see the beauty that we would be surrounded by for the next few days. What a beautiful area!
