Bloxels 2.0 just released in late May with so many new and wonderful features. Our designers in our virtual summer school course shared the many ways that Bloxels can unleash creativity. Some designers connected Bloxels to STEM Stories in our other course. Click on the Seesaw activity to access the lesson that Amy Otis and I created together. Our district is running three sessions of virtual summer school (June, July, August). Each session runs for 3 weeks with a different teacher and topic each week. Amy Otis @MrsOtisA and I decided to co-teach a bundle focused around Makers. Our sessions are Bloxels, Makers Empire, and STEM stories. The bundle was well received with a large wait list. Preparing for the course made me realize the challenges of virtual instruction. Amy and I spent over 15 hours talking through the progression, creating activities and videos in Seesaw, and thinking through the needs of our learners. The following are the Seesaw activities that we created for our K-5 group. On Day 3 and 5, we did a Google Meet with designers to share their designs and challenges. So when physical school closed in mid March, it appeared to be the end of Design Thinking and several projects that were just starting. After spending time transitioning to virtual instruction for all of our classrooms, my need to continue to create with our students resurfaced.
I reached out to our principal, Michelle Nummerdor, who has always supported my ideas to reach our learners and promote designing. She confirmed that we could send the bubble wands through the district mail which started the launch of the first virtual Design Challenge using Seesaw. Link to Seesaw Activity
Within the first days of the launch, over 50 designs had been submitted. Today just over 100 designs went out through the mail to our designers.
For four weeks, our kindergarten learners are engaged in different learning experiences in our Makerspace using Seesaw, Makers Empire, Osmos, and Large Legos. Large Lego BuildOsmo NumbersMakers Empire IntroductionBubble Wand Introduction
