For the past two years, I have been offering a Makerspace option twice a week during the lunch recess. It was well received by students but never moved past the technology being used during recess. I sadly referred to it as technology recess which was never the vision of my makerspace ideas. This year I am trying to reboot the makerspace into Design Thinking integrated into curriculum using makerspace materials and team teaching with the classroom teacher. |
I am very fortunate to have an administrator who understands my passion and has supported this transition to see where it will lead. Starting with the Grade 2 team, the month of October will be exploring tools. The first tool that I really wanted to use with our students is Osmo because of the flexibility of the different ways to learn and create. Realistically every student couldn't be using the same Osmo pieces nor was that ever a desire to see happen, so instead I created an Osmo Tic-Tac-Toe board so that students could keep track of what they have tried. Next week I will be adding Makers Empire so that students can play with 3D design. The following week will be Bloxels where students will learn how to design a character in a videogame. In November, we will be using the tools to connect to an area in the curriculum through Design Thinking. |
