On Facebook, I stumbled upon a post of a middle school teacher who was requesting materials for his Glowforge. I messaged him and have been fortunate enough to both learn via zoom and in person from Lee Briggs, at Tokai Middle School. This Monday I was able to go visit with my coach Steph Symes to learn more about the Glowforge and how Lee uses it with students. He shared with us the acrylic passes that they designed by engraving acrylic and painting the engrave area with paint prior to removing the masking. |
Lee designs his classroom with Makerspace QR codes that provide designers with the background knowledge to use different tools by easily accessing videos and quizzes that he has created on each tool. I loved this idea and can't wait to get started in my classroom for the 3D printer, Cricut Explorer and Maker, and the Glowforge. After designers are certified in the tool, they are able to create using the tool. I want to add another layer where designers have to track the cost of their materials through a budgeting process. |
Mr. Brigg's shared about how he has his Glowforge setup for students to design quickly and easily. He shared about the most popular projects right now - acrylic earrings, cedar Halloween lamps, engraving coasters, engraving dog tags, and even sewing books. It was such an amazing hour of learning. Thank you to Mr. Briggs for being to share all that you do and inspire other teachers! |
