After introducing my students to Unit 0 of the Modern Classroom format of Blended, Self-Paced, Mastery Based learning units, we started our first unit Storytelling and Video Game Design.
This iteration has been even better because I have used Bloxels, one of my favorite video game design programs, and Flip to really understand the process and pieces of designing a video game. First designers started with an overview of the entire unit using Loom, Google Slides, and Edpuzzle. |
Next designers played in the arcade of Bloxels and shared about what they learned while playing using my favorite collaborative sharing tool - Flip. Bloxels Arcade is accessible to anyone to experience the amazing designs and cool games. I love watching which games each designer gravitates too. I also chose Bloxels as the first video game design tool because of the video resources that they provide for my designers. With short tutorial videos, each designer immediately felt confident in working with Bloxels. |
Next I introduced creating art in Bloxels to discuss how goals and rewards motivate players to continue in a game. Designers used the Bloxels tutorial video to learn how to create art and I also introduced them to the asset packs and talked about how designers sometimes remix designs to incorporate into their games. |
