Modern Classroom Project Model
Last year in the midst of the pandemic and virtual teaching I stumbled on a post and then a podcast about this teaching philosophy called Modern Classroom Project. Of course I assumed that it would cost me money to learn but the amazing piece of it was the free online course and podcast about other teachers using this model. It resonated deeply with what I believe needs to happen in my classroom. I started to implement it with my Design Thinking Project unit last spring but this fall I started developing other units of study this way.
The Planning of the Unit
My first steps were to consider the why and the what. I wanted designers to have the opportunity to learn several video game tools through playing and creating. I selected four key tools - Bloxels, Pixicade, Scratch, and Flowlab. I then created tutorial videos that I explained the tool, tried to introduce the history of development of the tool, and how to use the tool. These videos were imported into Edpuzzle so that I could stop and clarify through questions for my designers. Lastly I created slides for the designers to document their learning.
