Last week 6th grade designers were engaged in our focus story "How I Met My Monster". This week continues to evolve and one of the newest and most fun parts of this week was adding Cookiecad and 3D printing cookie cutters to our week of monster making. In this previous blog post, I share the details of the Design Thinking Story as well as the Micro:bit virtual monster project which also I presented at the Global Maker Day. Link to Previous Blog Post The two newest additions to the unit have been the incorporation of the Makers Empire - Making Monsters Module and Cookiecad 3D cookie cutters. |

Cookiecad and Monster Making Cookie Cutters
For this design challenge, designers used Sketches Schools on their iPad to design their monster and import their design into the web based cookie cutter generating software.
Cookiecad has been a powerful tool that we continue to use because it allows designers to see how 2D can be converted to a 3D printable object. Of course the best part of the design is in the making of the cookies which is what we did this week. I use pie crust dough just because sugar cookie dough has proven to be more challenging to use in the classroom with temperature and adhesion to the cutters. |
